Day 12 - Ullapool - Scotland UK

It's all downhill from here. We travelled across the top of the UK then started to head south towards the Equator and that can only mean one thing - technically the weather should get warmer the further we travel.

Leaving John O'Groats we were hit with heavy snow then sun then hail then sun then snow then sun again. The views are spectacular where frozen lakes sit as a base for snow capped mountains. Even the sky presents as truly beautiful with curtains of falling snow contrasted next to clouds with varying degrees of grey.

We turned off here and there to explore small villages and to grab some photo opportunities. We stopped at Thurlo to find a dentist - not for me but for Karinne as her gum is inflamed and she believes she needs anti-biotics. The dentist was booked solid so onward we drove.

Stopping briefly at Tongue for a coffee, I wanted to stay over night there as it was also quite a nice hotel despite having several birds in glass boxes that had been immortalised by a taxidermist. Karinne wanted to move onward so we drove to Lochinver - not Lochinvar but Lochinver. Most B and B's and hotels are still closed because it is the off season and this was really apparent here - nothing open.

We drove a further 36 miles (approximately 50 kilometers) to Ullapool, a fishing village, where we are staying at a cheap but cheerful hotel. We will continue driving the scenic west coast road for a little further tomorrow before heading back to Inverness to further soak up what I can only describe as some of the most beautiful scenery I have ever seen.
