Day 29 - Trier Germany

It is a wet day in Paris and I am so upset. After yesterday's walk I placed my backpack on the bed and unbeknown to me my water bottle's lid was loose and emptied in my backpack. Alone this would be not an issue but my good Canon camera, sat nav and Go-Pro camera all got wet. The Go-Pro and sat nav survived but my Canon refuses to work. I dried it meticulously with a hair dryer but it is dead. This is a very expensive camera and one I wanted to use throughout our journey for high quality pics.

I can't capture images once I'm home and despite Tilly's generous offer of the use of her camera I need to buy another and really max out the credit card. So I walked to the nearest camera store and reluctantly bought a new one. By the time I returned to the hotel K had everything packed. We caught the Metro to Invalides and picked up the hire car. They upgraded us to a people mover which is great with all our baggage.

Once on the road, the sat nav took me through the Champs Élysées and to the Arc de Triomphe - my worst nightmare but I did alright. I was driving like a Parisian - the secret is to just force your way through the traffic and honk the horn occasionally.

It was a 435 kilometer drive to Trier but it was a nice drive. We drove through the Luxembourg border at 5.30 and half an hour later we crossed into Germany. We'll explore Luxembourg in the next day or two.

K and I went for a walk into the town centre (only a couple of blocks away) and really liked what we saw. It has some traditional German buildings and some very old churches.

Tomorrow we will explore this lovely town further.
