Day 83 - Ohrid, Macedonia

I just can't put in words all the experiences we have had in Macedonia. The entries I write are only the highlights of our day but we experience so much more. Our children are already being matched up with future husbands and wives, people want to give us things, show us their homes, stay with them and give us food and drinks. The countryside is beautiful and reminds me a lot of Windeyer. We have fallen in love with this area and its people.

Finn has been asking Vele to make him a whistle from a reed that grows near the river. On the way there Boris, one of the neighbour's was returning with some reeds to make the kids a whistle each. Boris is a real character and despite having to use Vele as an interpreter, we still all have a good laugh.

We drove to the Albanian border to Galicica National Park and had a picnic. We were at about 2400 meters above sea level so the view over several villages in Albania was like looking from an aircraft.

Not far was Lake Prespa that is owned by Greece, Albania and Macedonia. We took a ride in a small boat that is rowed by a tour guide. Water bubbles out of the ground and feeds the lake. The water is crystal clear and is protected as an UNESCO World Heritage site. Absolutely beautiful. An hour later we were in Ohrid, a coastal town. We're staying overnight as it is a fair drive back to Sopotnica.

We have decided to press onto Turkey in a few days so have booked the overnight bus from Skojpe to Istanbul. We need to organise our Visas which we will do tomorrow. Thank you to all that have sent us links on the latest news in Istanbul.
