Day 54 - Casola in Lunigiana Tuscany Italy

There are cats everywhere here. They tend to hang around in groups where we park our car. We left our front door open to return to find two outside the door and one inside eating one of the kids leftover spaghetti bolognese. It's not unusual to see 12 at a time although when Tilly feeds them the count has been 27 in one crowd.
There are only four in our little crowd as we drove to Aulla to check the train timetable for a train to Cinque Terra but typical of Italy - everything closes at 1pm for the day as was the case here with the ticket office. Aulla is 20 kilometers away but the main road is closed so the bypass journey took an hour and twenty. On the way we stopped at a Tourist Information office - but it was closed. When we reached Aulla we went to its Tourist Information office - but it was closed.

We then decided to take a drive and followed a sign to some Grottos (caves). It was also closed when we got there. I'm starting to understand why Italy is going down the toilet.

On the way home we stopped at a beautiful mountain top little village called Monzone Alto.  We walked through tiny streets where every corner presented a person happy to greet us in Italian. We reached a church at the very top just in time to hear its chimes ring down the valley.

A magical spot.
