Day 75 - Dubrovnik Croatia

Photo 1: Cooking in the apartments kitchen
2:Out for dinner

Last night K and I went for a coffee and upon returning were accosted by Baba next door. She is a dear old lady who speaks very little English but offered us Tequila and fruit and a repeated conversation as we think she may have dementia. We promised to return today for coffee.

Did I tell you we are staying in the stari grad (old town). It is surrounded by a huge wall dating back to the 8th century. The apartment we are staying in is about 700 years old and is close to everything but off the tourist route enough so is really quite. The most amazing thing is there is no McDonalds, KFC or Subway!

We visited the War Photo - a gallery of world conflict. Most of the images focused on the Bosnia, Kosovo and Macedonia wars dating back 21 years ago (there's that number again). Many of the images were quite disturbing and it reinforcers the lucky country we live in but also how insignificant a lot of the trivia in our life is compared to what others have endured.

We also visited a small museum displaying the damage and the restoration that is still being undertaken in Dubrovnik. Over 2000 shells alone fell on the inner city causing damage to 824 buildings within the city walls.

On a brighter side, we took the kids to the beach again despite the clouds rolling in and the rain starting. But the sun didn't take long to reappear - just a bit cooler. When walking to the beach it seemed like yesterday we were here - definitely no way three years ago - life is really that short and a wake up call not to miss a minute of it. And coincidently, we were here three years to the day!
