Mother's Day in Florence - a nice way for K to spend it. Presents from the kids first up before one of the worst breakfasts we have had. There was very limited choice and everything tasted awful. Even the fruit was bruised or off. So we'll sleep in the next few days and give brekky here a miss. We have a curfew of 11.30pm as we cannot get back to where we are staying after this time as we must be buzzed in. The nuns are fairly strict. For example, we must leave our keys with them upon going out. We didn't do this and were chastised but in our defense no one told us!
We walked to the Galleria degli Uffizi an area with many famous statues including David. Then to Ponte Vecchio which is a very old bridge with very old shops located on it. There are many, many illegal street sellers that would be there one moment with all their wares and then gone the next due to a police presence. Some used us as a shield. We seem to be pestered continuously. Beggars are everywhere and not all just sit on the street with a cup they come up to us shaking their cup demanding money.
We were heading to Piazzale Michelangelo but it started to pour and wouldn't stop. So we decided to abandoned this idea for another day. The moment the rain started the street sellers swapped their usual tat for umbrellas. You have to hand it to them - they are very opportunistic.
