Heading to a new place is always exciting. In 2010 we visited Berlin, Erfurt and Hamburg so we wanted to go to other places in Germany. The interesting thing is the accommodation we often find ourselves staying in. Booking from the Internet pictures is not always a true indication of what one gets.
We are staying at the Hotel Zum Pfalzgrafen in the university area which is right near the Old Town of Heidelburg. There were mixed reviews on this place, the most negatives being it hard to find. We had to drive down some very narrow cobbled streets but found the place with no effort. There is a dining room and our room door is right in the middle of one of the dining room walls. It has three bedrooms each with their own basin and a separate bathroom. I think everyone is thankful to finally have their own time-out area - I know K and I am.
Our car is a Peugeot Partner Tepee - a people mover so when we hit the Autobahn on the way here 140 kph was about all she would do mind you the BMW's and Audi's passing us were doing a lot more. It's only two lanes and although the speed limit is unlimited most people were doing only about 120.
After a short rest we climbed a very steep cobbled path to reach Heidelberger Schloss - a castle that is in partial ruins dating the sixteen hundreds. The views of the Old Town of Heidelberg from the castle were amazing. Heidelberg was occupied by the US so remained undamaged during the war.
We ate dinner alfresco style in the square. This is a truly beautiful place and we are blessed to be staying right in the middle of it. Wifi is scarce here hence the delay in posting.
