Day 37 - Munich Germany

Image
I stole this pic from Wikipedia (you can tell as it is sunny) as Karinne the blog photographer was being slack. I took some but my images are in RAW so have to wait to get home to process.

Another cold and wet day with tops of 10 degrees. We're up early to catch the train to Hauptbahnhof Central station to go on a tour of Neushwanstein castle. From Hauptbahnhof Central station it is a two hour train trip then about a ten minute bus ride to the Bavarian Alps. About half an hour out of Neushwanstein snow lay on the ground and increased so when we arrived at Neushwanstein there was plenty of snow everywhere that added to the atmosphere.
We firstly visited the Schloss Hohenschwangau a castle that was the childhood residence of King Ludwig II of Bavaria and was built by his father, King Maximilian II of Bavaria. Then came the long, long walk up to Schloss Neushwanstein. This castle was never completed both externally and internally due to King Ludwig II's death but it is beautiful. Neuschwanstein Castle is a 19th-century Romanesque Revival palace on a rugged hill above the village of Hohenschwangau near Füssen in southwest Bavaria, Germany and was the inspiration for Disneyland's Sleeping Beauty Castle.

We toured inside to see the thirteen completed rooms were the King lived in and all the original furniture including curtains and kitchen utensils. There were several Aussies on the tour so chatting with some seemed to reduce the distance we feel sometimes. It's funny how one gravitates towards their native people.

So a full day by the time we did the three hour return trip but a good day. Tomorrow we intend to do a free walking tour of Munich.
