Day 76 - Dubrovnik Croatia

A bit of a sleep in before walking the top of the city wall. They run an uninterrupted course of approximately two kilometers, encircling most of the old city, and reach a maximum height of about 25 metres. The wall sustained some damage in the war as it was made to protect the town from spears and arrows - not 20th century weapons.

K took the kids to the beach whilst I backed up my pictures. From here we caught the cable car to the top of the Srd Hill. The Dubrovnik Cable Car was built back in 1969 but destroyed during the conflict. It was still being rebuilt when we were here in 2010 and now finished. Finn and I visited the neighbouring Imperial Fortress that was strategically built on this privileged spot, back in the early 19th century. It also sustained damage and inside is a museum dedicated to the Dubrovnik conflict.

Bubba next door insisted we have a coffee before we go tomorrow so we will. The going gets a little tougher from here as we rely on public transport for the remainder of our trip carrying a fair amount of luggage. Tomorrow we head to Kotor in Montenegro but for only one day.
